Service Terms, Conditions & Policies

 Effective March 16, 2026 | Applies to All ACS Services

Introduction

At Auto Computer Specialist (ACS), we are committed to delivering transparent, reliable, and professional ECU-related services. These Service Terms, Conditions, and Policies outline the standards, expectations, and responsibilities associated with all work performed by ACS.


These terms apply to all services offered by ACS, including but not limited to ECU Repair, Rebuild, Remanufacturing, Programming, Testing, Data Cloning, Calibration Services, and Wire Harness Restoration.


By submitting a component, purchasing a service, or otherwise engaging with ACS, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these policies in full. These policies exist to ensure fairness, operational efficiency, and the highest level of service quality for every customer. 

Refund Policy

Due to the highly specialized, technical, and often irreversible nature of ECU-related services, ACS maintains a strict no-refund policy once service work has begun.


Upon receipt of your module, our technicians immediately allocate diagnostic time, proprietary software licenses, specialized equipment, and in some cases internal components to begin the service process. Because these resources are committed at the start of the repair workflow, refunds cannot be issued after service initiation.


This policy ensures operational fairness and allows ACS to continue maintaining the professional standards, technical accuracy, and turnaround times our customers rely on.


The Following Services Are Strictly Non-Refundable

  1. Repair & Rebuild Services
    Repair and rebuild services are performed based on the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and vehicle symptoms provided by the customer. ACS does not perform full vehicle diagnostics, therefore services are completed according to the information submitted at the time of order.
  2. Programming Services
    Once software, firmware, or calibration data has been written to a control module, the process is permanent and cannot be reversed, making programming services non-refundable.
  3. Testing Services
    Testing utilizes professional simulation equipment and technician labor. Even if no internal fault is identified, the service has been completed and remains non-refundable.
  4. Cloning & Data Transfer
    Data cloning and transfer services are unique to each individual module. Once performed, the data transfer cannot be undone or reassigned.
  5. Shipping & Handling
    Shipping services are considered completed once the package is scanned by the carrier, regardless of delivery outcome or transit conditions.
  6. Tampered or Altered Units
    Refunds will not be issued for any ECU that has been opened, modified, tampered with, or physically damaged after it has been returned to the customer. 

Return & Restocking Policy

OEM Replacement Units Only Returns are accepted exclusively for Remanufactured Replacement Units and must meet all conditions listed below.


Eligible Return Requirements

To qualify for a return:

  • The return request must be initiated within 14 days of delivery.
  • The unit must be unused, uninstalled, and in its original condition.
  • All ACS warranty seals and tamper labels must remain fully intact.
  • The unit must not have been powered, energized, programmed, or installed in any vehicle.


If these conditions are not met, the unit will be subject to a 60% restocking fee. This restocking fee also applies to returns resulting from:

  • Incorrect diagnosis
  • Ordering the wrong part
  • Customer installation error
  • Vehicle issues unrelated to ECU failure

Diagnostic Trial Prohibition

ACS products may not be used for trial-and-error diagnostics.

  • Installing a replacement ECU simply to “test if it fixes the problem” without confirming ECU failure or resolving the underlying root cause violates company policy.
  • Returns submitted under these circumstances may be denied or restocked at partial value. 

Pre-Service Requirements

To ensure accurate processing, efficient repair workflows, and minimal delays, customers are required to provide the following before submitting a unit for service:

  1. Completed ACS Service Form Every shipment must include the official ACS Service Request Form, filled out completely and accurately.
  2. Removal of Aftermarket Tunes Any aftermarket flash files, performance tunes, or third-party software must be removed prior to sending the ECU. ACS does not preserve, restore, or guarantee the retention of aftermarket calibrations or non-OEM programming during the service process. 

Estimated Turnaround Times

Turnaround time begins only after both the ECU and completed service documentation are received.


Typical service timelines are as follows:

  • Repair / Rebuild Services (Excluding A50/T14 modules)
    Estimated turnaround: 3–5 business days
  • Remanufactured Replacement Units
    Estimated turnaround: 1–5 business days
  • Programming & Cloning Services
    Estimated turnaround: 1–5 business days
  • Wire Harness Restoration
    Estimated turnaround: 10–15 business days


Please note that turnaround times are estimates and not guarantees. Delays may occur due to:

  • Technician workload
  • Parts availability
  • Complex or previously tampered units
  • Shipping delays or unforeseen service complications

Customers are encouraged to monitor shipment tracking and allow reasonable downtime for service completion. 

ECU Testing Fees

All ECU testing is conducted using professional-grade diagnostic simulators and proprietary testing equipment, requiring specialized technician expertise regardless of outcome.


Testing services are billable and non-refundable. Standard Testing Rates

  1. Gasoline ECUs  $148.88
  2. Light / Medium Duty Diesel ECUs  $188.88 – $288.88
  3. Heavy Duty Diesel ECUs  $288.88 – $488.88


If the prepaid amount exceeds the final testing cost, any remaining balance will be promptly refunded to the original payment method. All ECU testing is performed using professional-grade simulation tools and requires skilled technician labor, regardless of whether faults are found. These services are billable and non-refundable.

Standard testing fees include:

  • Gasoline ECUs: $100.00 
  • Light/Medium-Duty Diesel: $148.88 – $248.88 
  • Heavy-Duty Diesel: $248.88 – $448.88
     

If your prepaid amount exceeds the final testing fee, any overage will be refunded promptly.

Shipping Terms

ACS is not responsible for delays, damage, or loss caused by third-party shipping carriers.


All shipments are handled at the customer’s risk, and we strongly recommend using insured and trackable shipping methods.

Shipping Policies

  • All shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer unless otherwise specified.
  • ACS does not provide return shipping labels for warranty claims or refunds.
  • Free Ground Shipping may be offered on qualifying orders within the lower 48 United States.
  • International customers must provide prepaid UPS shipping labels for both inbound and return shipments.

Shipping charges remain non-refundable, including in cases involving returns, denied services, or exchanges. 

Warranty Policy & Service Terms

This warranty policy applies to all services provided by Auto Computer Specialist, including ECU repair, remanufactured ECU replacement, ECU programming, VIN cloning, diagnostics, and wire harness restoration. 


Our goal is to provide reliable electronic repairs while clearly defining what is and is not covered under warranty.

ACS Limited Lifetime Warranty

ACS proudly offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty with Unlimited Mileage on qualifying services performed on or after June 15, 2022.

This warranty applies to:

  • ECU Repair and Rebuild Services
  • Remanufactured Replacement Units (for qualifying ECUs)

The warranty is valid only for the original purchaser and is non-transferable. 

Warranty Coverage

The ACS Lifetime Warranty provides the following protections:

  1. Coverage of Original ACS Work
    The warranty covers only the specific repair or service originally performed by ACS.
  2. Single Warranty Repair Attempt
    Units are eligible for one in-warranty repair or service, provided the root cause of failure has been corrected.
  3. Replacement Credit Eligibility
    If the unit cannot be repaired under warranty, the first warranty incident may qualify for credit toward a replacement unit.
  4. Remanufactured Unit Replacement
    Remanufactured units are eligible for one replacement during the ownership of the original vehicle (VIN-specific).


All warranty claims require the module to be returned to ACS for inspection and verification before coverage is approved.


Warranty does not cover failures caused by:

  • vehicle wiring problems
  • sensor failures
  • alternator or charging system faults
  • water, oil, or coolant contamination
  • corrosion damage
  • accident or fire damage
  • impact or physical damage
  • broken connectors or bent pins
  • aftermarket performance modifications


These conditions originate outside the ECU and can damage any electronic module.


Unauthorized Repairs

Warranty becomes void if the module has been:

  • opened after leaving ACS
  • modified or altered
  • repaired by another facility
  • tampered with in any way


Electronic modules contain tamper indicators that allow technicians to detect unauthorized access.


Required Proof for “Test Unit” Warranty Claims

If a warranty claim involves a second “Test Unit”, customers must provide a single continuous video recording clearly demonstrating:

  1. Show the Original/Programmed ECU Operating in the Vehicle
    The video must clearly display the vehicle VIN on the scan tool or dashboard while the programmed unit is installed and the vehicle is functioning correctly.
  2. Removal of the Programmed ECU
    Within the same continuous recording, show the complete removal of the working programmed unit from the vehicle.
  3. Installation of the Rebuilt or Remanufactured ACS Unit
    Install the ACS rebuilt or remanufactured ECU in the vehicle during the same recording.
  4. Demonstrate the Reported Issue
    After installation, clearly show the vehicle failing to operate or exhibiting the reported issue.

Important Requirements

  • The entire process must be recorded in one continuous, unedited video.
  • The VIN must be clearly visible during the portion where the original programmed ECU is shown working.
  • Edited clips, multiple videos, or incomplete recordings cannot be accepted for verification purposes.

This process helps our technicians accurately confirm the reported issue and ensures fair, efficient handling of warranty or test-unit claims.  Warranty is voided by any of the following:

  • Installation into a vehicle with unresolved root issues (e.g., shorted alternators, faulty grounds, or active TSBs). 
  • Damage from improper installation, voltage spikes, corrosion, or water intrusion. 
  • Any tuning, modification, or third-party tampering post-service. 
  • Missing warranty labels or evidence of physical opening. 
  • Any unpaid invoices or declined prorated repair charges.

Service-Specific Terms

  • Repair & Rebuild Services
    Units may be serviced once under warranty. Additional repair attempts may require prorated service fees.
  • Remanufactured Replacement Units
    Returned cores must be received within 14 days to maintain eligibility. Only one lifetime replacement per VIN is permitted.
  • Wire Harness Restoration
    Covered for 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Warranty becomes void if the harness is modified or altered after delivery.


Wire Harness Restoration Warranty

Auto Computer Specialist (ACS) guarantees the quality of all wire harness restorations for 3 months or 300 miles, whichever occurs first. This limited warranty is designed to protect against defects in workmanship or materials used during the restoration process.


Do not attempt repairs, adjustments, or modifications yourself. Any tampering will void the warranty.


This warranty does not cover:

  • Damage from accidents, improper installation, or external factors
  • Programming, testing, or cloning of electronic modules
  • Wear and tear beyond normal usage

Claim Procedure

If a problem arises within the warranty period:

  1. Do not attempt a fix—any self-repair may void coverage.
  2. Contact ACS immediately via email (reply to your Restoration Detail Email (this is the email you received with your tracking number).
  3. Provide the following information:
    • Clear photos of the affected wire harness
    • Detailed description of the issue, including when it occurred
    • Vehicle details (make, model, year)

  1. ACS will evaluate your submission and provide instructions for resolution.

Additional Notes This warranty is a commitment to workmanship and quality but does not extend to consequential damages or other vehicle components affected by failure. By following these guidelines, you help ensure safe, reliable, and long-lasting performance of your restored wire harness. 

Limitation of Liability

Warranty coverage is limited to the module serviced by Auto Computer Specialist.


ACS is not responsible for:

  • installation labor
  • diagnostic labor
  • towing charges
  • rental vehicles
  • vehicle downtime
  • lost income or business interruption


Liability is limited to the repair, replacement, or original service cost of the module.


Warranty Eligibility

Warranty coverage applies only to:

  • the original purchaser
  • the original vehicle VIN associated with the service
  • the original repaired module or supplied replacement


Warranty is not transferable if the vehicle is sold.

Warranty Claim Initiation

To begin a warranty claim, you must first reply directly to your original Service Notes email and provide a detailed description of the current issue(s) you are experiencing with the unit.


Once your message is received, our team will review your service history and the information provided to determine the appropriate next steps. A member of our support staff will then respond with further instructions, which may include additional troubleshooting steps, documentation requirements, or return authorization details if inspection is required.


Submitting your request through the original Service Notes email thread allows our technicians to quickly reference the previous repair records, VIN data, and service details, helping ensure your warranty request is processed as efficiently as possible.


If additional verification or information is needed, our team will guide you through the process to help resolve the issue promptly and professionally. 

Privacy Policy 🔐

ACS respects your privacy and maintains secure protocols for all customer data. When interacting with our website or services, you may be asked to provide personal information such as your name, contact info, vehicle details, or payment data.


We use this information to process orders, respond to inquiries, and improve your service experience. Occasionally, you may receive service updates or promotional emails, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.


Your data is never sold or rented. Information is only shared with third-party vendors (e.g., shipping or payment platforms) to fulfill your service request, and all partners are bound by confidentiality agreements. We implement secure encryption and access controls to protect your information.


By using our website and services, you consent to this privacy policy.

Final Provisions

By submitting your unit for service, you confirm that you have authority to do so and agree to these terms. ACS is not responsible for unrelated vehicle problems, labor costs, or damages caused by misdiagnosis.
